Type II diabetes mellitus is a disease highly associated with obesity that decreases the life expectancy of patients who suffer from it, it is related to cardiovascular diseases, peripheral nerve damage, blindness and kidney failure.
Metabolic surgery is the application of the surgical techniques used in Bariatric surgery or obesity surgery to patients with mild obesity (Body Mass Index (BMI) from 30 to 35) and severe obesity (BMI 35 to 40), who suffer from Type II diabetes mellitus and who cannot reach the desired levels of glycaemia (blood sugar) despite correct medical treatment (medicines, diet, and physical exercise)
